Dunfermline Children's Gala 2008

The Wild West came to Dunfermline on Saturday and it was a rootin' tootin' rip roaring success. The stars of the show were the 3,000 children and the parents that got dressed up in theme for the Dunfermline Children's Gala procession. The children all had cowboy hats donated by sponsor FMC Technologies, food bags filled with water and a snack and when they got to Pittencrieff Park  after the procession they were treated to a Subway kids meal before they played games with the equipment donated by Carnegie Dunfermline Trust last year. This year the Trust donated musical instruments to the schools.

The four horse drawn stagecoach was a great crowd pleaser as were the giant praying mantas and multi coloured stilt walkers. The musical entertainment from the various pipe, brass and silver bands was much appreciated by the crowd.  We were also pleased that some shops got into the spirit with Pink String on Bridge Street impressing with their window display.

Of course to make the event work a lot of organisation is required by the 30 strong gala committee and they deserve huge praise. People such as Liane Horder and Ali Matthews have gone above beyond to give Dunfermline a very special day.

The Chariots of Fire pony and carriage display in the Glen was superb as were the Drakes of Hazard. The Lonestar showed what the Wild West was like with their re-enactment show.

We thank all that contributed to our finances from the 5 year old that donated 50p from her pocket money to the pensioners who popped pounds in our collecting boxes. Lots of companies helped out also with FMC Technologies our main sponsor leading off and culminating with a £2,500 donation last week from Simclar Chairman Sam Russell's Russell Foundation.

A big thank you to all the unseen volunteers such as Vine Church, Rotary Club and Sea Cadets that helped make the event run smoothly.

Finally, a big thank you to the public of Dunfermline for coming out in their thousands to participate. We enjoyed making it happen and we hope you enjoyed watching. If you have comments or suggestions for next year please contact us on the guest book page.
