A Modern Gala
There are still some similarities to the original Gala; the children walk down the High Street and end in Pittencrieff Park with a picnic lunch and games. But it is doubtful Andrew Carnegie would recognise the event today.
In 2006, the Committee, then headed by Robbie Beattie, took the decision that the only way the declining numbers attending the Gala could be reversed was to bring the Gala into the 21st Century.
In order to encourage bigger crowds, we have had to search further afield to bring in entertainment which not only pleases those taking part but also thrills those watching. In the past we have had everything from a giant caterpillar, chinese dragons, juggling uni-cyclists, Captain Jack Sparrow, drumming ants, stiltwalkers, pirates and cowboys. Not to mention the pipe and brass bands and community groups who also take part in the procession.

The improvements to the parade have clearly been reflected in the noticeable increase in the number of people watching the parade and coming down to the Glen for the afternoon entertainment.
